THank you so much for your reply. My friend who I am helping research her family tree, Kim Downs, i believe her family is also a mixed race as in some of the census has them listed as mulatto. in some of the census that I have found, some of her family are from the Kansas, Wyandotte County area. Her Powell family are from that area, in which Mary Powell married Hosea Calhaun. We do not have to much info on the Calhaun's, in that is why I posted the message on the forum. One thing that Kim told me is family history has said that she may be related to Lena Horne. I cannot find the connection yet if they are related to the singer. Kim's parents are from CA.
