Owen. thanks for the reply. You are correct, many of such slaves did assume the prior owners surname. However,one of the Ft. Hill plantation Calhoun men did sire a child(s) with a black slave. I have discussed this with one of their descendants. He worked for Coca Cola in Atlanta. I can't remember his name but he convienced me.
I descend from Rebecca Calhoun and her husband Gen.Andrew Pickens.
