I have a news paper article of my grandmothers on a Calk family reunion back in 1958, host were Mr. and Mrs. Joseph E. Roberts. [It was for the descendants of Charles Oliver Calk and Hallie Keener Calk. Oliver born in Clarke County,Ala. Nov.9, 1855 and died Aug. 2,1921. Family records list Calks in every American war but the direct line has been traced only to Elijah Calk, grandfather of Oliver Calk, who was born in Virginia in 1771. However, Elijah moved to GA. where he has relatives and reared a family. His son, Moses, who is the father of Oliver, was born in Ga. in 1812. Elijah and his family moved to what is now Clarke County, Ala., 5yrs before that part of Miss. Territory became Ala. He married again and reared another family. In 1869 the immediate family and several other related families, together with many other Alabamans, moved almost enmasse to the vicinity of Monroe and established the community known today as Downsville. Oliver and George Calk, cousins, moved with their families to Grant Parish. A brother, Urbane, and sister Melissa, and various nieces and other relatives also moved to Pollock.] My grandfather is George B. Calk born July 7,1860 and died March 16, 1944. I can only assume that my George is the cousin to Oliver. Does any of this sound familiar to you? If so please help. Thanks!
