Hopefully we can help each other a bit here. I have been trying to figure out where a Solon Ransom fits into my family and I came across what must be your Oliver Calk in the census of 1900 Union Parish, Louisiana. He's at family# 211 in District 89, Ward 5. He's shown as 23 born La, father born Alabama, mother born Alabama. His wife's name I can't read, but she's 18 and b. Louisiana. With them are two males listed as stepsons of Oliver: Solon Ransom age 5 and some name I can't make out (something like Brudii) age 5/12. The column for married within the year was not marked, so the wife must have been pregnant with "Brudii" when Oliver maried her sometime before 1 June 1879.
The family immediately preceding them at family #210 is that of T. P. Ransom age 49. So, I'm guessing that Oliver's wife must be a daughhter in law of Thomas P. Ransom, but I don't know who her Ransom husband was. It's either that logic or Oliver had a previous wife who left him with these two step children.
I saw a tree at the LDS site that gave Oliver's parentage and siblings. It gave his birth as 12/16/1856 Union Parish La and death 1/7/1923 Union Parish La.
I also found him in the 1860 census of Union Parish with his father D. (David) Calk at household# 360.
So, my question: who was his wife and were Solon Ransom and "Brudii" her children?
