The following is from a list of crewmen aboard the ironclad gunboat, USS CAIRO, sunk by a Confederate torpedo in the Yazoo river, Vicksburg, Mississippi, December 12, 1862: James D. Callihan, enlisted St. Louis, February 4, 1861 as a fireman. James was 27 years old, was born in Virginia and was a citizen of Illinois. He had grey eyes, light hair, light skin, and stood 5 feet, 9 inches tall.
