Hello, kinfolks. I, too, am a great-granddaughter of Thomas Jefferson Callihan; his last child (Alexander) by his 2nd marriage was my grandfather. My father was Arsdell Alexander Callihan b 10/21/07 at Liverpool TX. I'm just getting into my Callihan genealogy and when I found this message board, I dug out some old papers my dad had. Most of this information has not been verified.

TJ was born 10 May 1817 in (take your pick) Illinoise, Ohio, Indiana, Romney West Virginia or Vermont. He died 31 May 1880 in Liverpool, Brazoria Co., Texas. TJ was in the Texas Army and fought at the Battle of San Jacinto. There is a state historic marker is located at the Liverpool Cemetery.

According to copies of letters I have, Louisa Jane Clark, wife of William Clark was one of TJ's sisters. (They married in Ohio and then came to Texas about 1835-38, perhaps via Louisiana.) TJ also had a sister Nancy who married (1840 Ohio) Capt. James Thomas, a wealthy riverboat capt on the Ohio River. He was a widower with a large family. They had a son, Samual, and then Capt. Thomas died about 1842. Nancy Thomas married Alex Edgell. Nancy died in 1872 and Edgell died in 1898. Most of the information I have is from a copy of a letter written Dec.14 1900 from Samuel Thomas to Johanna, TJ's 2nd wife. He was living in NY City on West 57th Street. His wife (Anna Augusta ?) was still alive and his children (not named) were grown but not married. According to Thomas' letter, Nancy Callihan lived with the Clarks in Ohio at the time of her marriage to Capt.Thomas, and it also says Thomas' first wife was a Clark. Samuel indicated that as a child, he corresponded with TJ in 1856 regarding settlement of a small estate.

TJ's first wife was Mary C. (Polly) Talbot, daughter of Rev. John Talbot (m 7 Jan 1838 in Harrisburg [Harris Co] TX.). The marriage was performed by her father. I don't know if I have all their childrens' names, but there was Harriet C. (Cassandra?), William Clark, and Mary (died at age 5).

TJ's 2nd wife was Johanna Fredrica Bischoff (Bishoff) b 18 Mar 1839 near Hamburg Germany, d 3/1/25 at Liverpool. Her parents were Philip and Mary Bishoff. She and TJ married 20 January 1856 at Liverpool and their children were: T.J Jr., b 1/20/57; Eliza (aka Coalie) b 1/8/59, John F. b 9/26/60, Julia A. b 12/17/63, George Henry b 7/2/66, Ella b 6/10/71, Josephine Isabell (aka Josie or Jo) b 2/6/75, and Alexander b 3/21/78.

I hope this information provides some new clues for you to follow! If you find anything of interest regarding TJ's parentage, please share with me.
