Soldier in the Texas War For Independence From Mexico (1835-1836) was enlisted for one (1) year in Captain (CPT) Amasa TURNER'S volunteers at New Orleans, Louisiana (LA) February 1836; this unit sailed immediately to Velasco, Texas (Now Freeport, Brazoria County, Texas)and was mustered into General Sam Houston's Army of the Republic of Texas which fought at San Jacinto (Now Harris County,Texas) 21 April, 1836; received Bounty Land Grants from the Republic for his service; first marriage(1837) to Susan Talbot in Harrisburg, TX (Now Houston,Harris County, TX)Original license on file in county archives. Two children of this union; WILLIAM CLARK CALLIHAN (WCC) born at Liverpool,Brazoria County, TX, married to KATRINKA WILHELMINA HAGEN (born in Germany)who had numerous children including VERDE ELMER CALLIHAN (VEC), my father.
