Re: callison family [ caroline callison]
I beliebe Rebecca is the daughter of Isaac CALLISON (b. 1791+-) who m. Cynthia ROBINSON (b. c1799) in 1816 in what is now Nicholas Co., WV.Isaac and Cynthia are listed in the 1850 VA census for Braxton Co., now WV; in the 1860 VA census for Clay Co., now WV; and Isaac living with his son, William, in the 1870 WV census for Clay Co., now WV.Cynthia is not listed in the 1870 census. Some researchers list Isaac's wife simply as Cynthia, and others list her as Cynthia Rachel. So far, no one has provided any proof for the middle name Rachel.Issac’s parentage unknown.(Researcher Don NORMAN says he is the son of Daniel CALLISON and Mary THORP, but I do not know on what he basis this.)Cynthia is the daughter of James ROBINSON (1772-1831) and Elizabeth LEMASTERS (1870-1832), who were born in Virginia and lived in Nicholas County, WV, and married in 1798.
The proof for Isaac's wife is found in the following military record:Isaac CALLISON served Pvt. Capt. M. McCowns Co., VA Militia. He enlisted on 30 April 1814 and was discharged 29 August 1814.The residence of the solidier:1850, 1855 Braxton Co., VA (now WV), and 1871 Clay Co. P.O. Tate Creek, Braxton Co.Maiden name of wife:Cynthia ROBINSON.Marriage 1816, Nicholas Co., VA.Bounty Land:17, 904-40-50 & 44, 951-120-55.S.O. 9,845 & S.C. 7,560.
The following possible children for Isaac and Cynthia are found in the 1860 census:
(4)1. John H. CALLISON, b. 02-13-1823 (in 1860 census living near Isaac and Sinthy
(4)2. Margaret M. CALLISON, b. 01-31-1827 (m. Jacob LEGG, in 1860 census near Isaac and Sinthy)
(4)3. William A. CALLISON, b. 12-14-1828 (in 1860 census living near Isaac and Sinthy)
(4)4. Rebecca Agnes CALLISON, b. 04-10-1834 (m. Hiram YOUNG, in 1860 census living near Isaac and Sinthy).Another source lists Rebecca H. CALLISON, b. 11-23-1833.Believe Rebecca Agnes is the correct one, because Rebecca's brother, Samuel, was living with Rebecca A. and Hiram YOUNG in the 1860 census.
(4)5. Sarah J. CALLISON, b. 10-05-1832 (m. John CHAPMAN, in 1860 census living near Isaac and Sinthy).John CHAPMAN may be the son of William O. CHAPMAN (c1787-1874) and Frances F. "Fannie" WILSON who were m. 12-28-1805 in Kanawha Co., WV, by Edward HUGHES.
(4)6. Elisha F. CALLISON, b. 12-15-1835 (b. 1838+- in 1860 census living near Isaac and Sinthy).
