Campello=Ciampolillo?

For some time now, I have been looking for information on my maternal great grandfather, Pasquale Campello, and by extension, my Italian "roots". I only just recently found out that this was not his original surname, and that in fact it was legally changed to "Campello" from Ciampolillo at some point soon after he came to this country. A ha, now I can find out more information about him, that he was from Avenillo province, and probably immigrated to Boston between 1900 and 1919. I am guessing that the name was changed simply for ease of pronunciation.

But I was naively surprised to learn of this name change, and thought I would share this with others who might be having problems looking for "Campello" ancestors. It honestly hadn't occurred to me before, having seen the Campello name on everything from a bottle of wine to a train station in Brockton, Mass. I will update with anything further as it becomes available.
