I asked my father about the candy family. He's now 100 yrs old but has a terrific memory. He never met Joe's father and does not know his mother's name.He remembers your grandfather, Tom, as having been very keen on photography and said that he did a lot of work for Kodak. He said that Jim (James) had been a naval architect and a teacher and that his brother, Tom, had been a top man in radiology and found that he had more that enough work to keep him busy and he suggested to Jim that he should qualify as a doctor so Jim then studied medicine."Brains to burn" according to Daddy. He remembers Dorothey, Madeleine, Gertrude and Lily (Adelaide). His sister, Dodo (Agnes) O'Kane married Joe in Egypt and they lived there while he was employed on work on the dam.I mentioned to Daddy the rumour that there had been political patronage in Joe's appointment to the office of public works but he said that Joe had the top qualifications "any number of degrees" was how he put it and that he was more highly qualified that his competitors.
I live quite near to Derry and I will try to locate information for you as soon as I can manage and will post later if I come across anything. Best regards, Anne
