CANES OF LONDON

Trying to trace any info on William Cane born c1833-34 either St Pancras London or possibly Brighton. William maried Jane anne Haines also from London. William was listed on his sons birth cert in 1861 as a Advertising agent and by the 1881 census was listed as a compositer working in Fleet Street. William and Jane had eight children that i know of Ann Selby Cane b1860, Charles William Selby Cane b 4 Aug 1861(my gg grandfather)m Elizabeth Martha Smith, Maude Francis Selby Cane b1864, Louisa Elizabeth Selby cane b1867, Benjamin John Selby Cane b 1869 m Elizabeth Caroline M Gifford, Richard James Selby Cane b 23 apr 1871, Emily Mary Selby b 1873 and John Selby Cane b 1876.They were all born in London and most are buried at Abney Cemetery in London. I am also hoping someone can shed some light on why all of William Canes children and decendants suddenly carry the name Selby. I have found no connection to the Selby line as yet. Any help would be very much appreciated.
