I'm a SIMMONS and NEWHOUSE researcher, but I'm interested in finding more information about James CANE/CAIN who was living in Weakley Co., TN as early as 1833. The CANE family seems to have lived near my SIMMONS and NEWHOUSE families, both in Weakley and Obion counties and married into my NEWHOUSE family. I'm hoping that by learning more about the CANEs, I might be able to trace my g grandfather, John SIMMONS, b. 1814, back to the county of his birth (said to be somewhere in Middle TN). My hope is that they might have come to West TN together. This is a long shot, but I've been "stuck" for a long time and have been unable to determine the county of birth of John SIMMONS. Now I'm researching families who MIGHT have had some connection to the SIMMONS family.
In the Weakley Co. Court Minutes 1833, James C. CANE was assigned to work with John and Thomas SIMMONS on Mill Point Road under the supervision of William BALDRIDGE.

1842 Weakley Co. Tax List Dist. 3 James C. CANE
James does not appear in the 1850 Weakley Co. TN Census, but the following CANEs do. (Perhaps his sons??)
J. CANE 22 Male TN living in household of T.P. CLEMONS
J.W. CANE 24 male TN; Caroline 22 TN; James 2 TN
In the 1860 Obion Co. TN Census, Dist. 7, R.B. CANE was living near my NEWHOUSE family. R. B. had no wife but one daughter and several sons. One of them was L.C., age 18, who may have been Elijah C. CAIN (Lige C.???)
On April 30, 1862 in Obion Co., TN (neighboring county of Weakley Co., Elizabeth "Eliza" NEWHOUSE (dau. of my gg grandfather, John T. NEWHOUSE) married Elijah C. CAIN (possibly a misspelling of CANE in marriage record). By 1870, Eliza and her son, John, b. c1864, were living in the household of her father. I haven't found any trace of Elijah after the marriage record except for an Elijah CAIN listed in the Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System who might have been the husband of Eliza.
If you have any information about any of these CANEs, please let me know. Thanks very much for any help.
