Check out the Kornegay, Gnaegi and Gnegy and any other sound alike forums, too. You never know what you might find. The Hans Gnaegi fellow that most folks descend from in the US came over from Switzerland via France and England to Pennsylvania in 1742. From there the family took off... and we're everywhere...with every spelling you can think of since the Census takers, etc., couldn't spell Gnaegi...and that's not really how it was spelled in the first place. The Kornegay name is believed by some to have begun in Switzerland, possibly from a name like Gnaegi (via the Swiss spelling which isn't necessarily Gnaegi!), and they moved into Germany and settled later in the Carolina area. Just thought you'd like to know... Canaga Canage Canega Conagy Conaga Gnaga Gnagy Kanage Knaga Knagy Kanagy Kanaga Kenaga Kornegay Gnaegy (it just get's deeper and deeper, doesn't it!) Possible all the same family in some folks eyes...way back when... Good Luck!
