extremely stubborn brick wall regarding Canning
Hopefully someone out there will be able to helpme.
I'm up against a stubborn brick wall regarding my great aunt, who married a Michael Canning, born around 1877 in Country Leitrim. They were married in Portobello, Scotland, around 1899 and I've discovered that they emigrated to the USA around 1906.Two of their living children at the time were with them, Elizabeth, born 1899 and Charles, born 1903.Another 3 boys, followed, all born in New York, James, John and Thomas. These 3 boys were found in the 1920 US Census living in St. Josephs Home for Orphaned and Destitute Children.
Michael, Elizabeth and Charles, were still living in Yonkers Ward in New York and Michael is listed as a Widower.I'm trying to find out when and where my great aunt died - also when and where Michael died, and if the children married, had families of their own.
My great aunts name at birth was Honor Ann Jane Innes, born 1879 in Portobello, Scotland. She may have been known as Ann as the copies of birth certificates for Elizabeth and Charles, and also two other sons born in Scotland her name varies from Honor Ann Jane Canning to just Ann Jane Canning.
If anyone out there can help me on this brick wall, please get in touch.I'd be extremely grateful, as I would love to know if I have any 2nd cousins etc., still living in America.
Many thanks.Carole
