There very well could be a connection here because of the names of the siblings. Going back a little I have a John Cant b.1811. John had a brother named James and who's children's names are very much the same as your John's children. My family eventually resided in Dundee and these children were born in Dundee. There names being Ann b.1859 (St.Vigeans), Alexander b.1860(Dundee), James McLean b.1862(Dundee), William b.1864(Dundee), Isabella b.1866(Dundee), Jane b.1868(Dundee), John b.1870(Dundee), Margaret b.1870(Dundee) and Agnes b.1872(Dundee). Do you know who John's parents were and where they were born? Maybe they are in the same family. Any other information you have may be helpful.
