Hi Peter,
I have found a fair bit of information on the Cant family since I posted this message and although I can't be certain that any of the following people are yours, it may be of some help to you.
1782 Tillingham James Cant married Hannah Duck (Daughter of William Duck and Hannah Noaks)
They had a daughter Hannah Cant born 1783 Southminster. Don't know about any other children.
Hannah Cant married George Cant ( no date for the marriage and no parents for George yet, sorry)
George and Hannah had the following offspring all, I believe, in Brightlingsea:
George Cant 1806
Samuel Cant 1810
Hannah Cant 1812
William Cant 1814
James Cant 1816
(no more information on the three younger siblings)
George Cant ( 1806) married Charlotte Frost and had offspring:-
George Shipman Cant - no dates for him
Hannah 1835 - Colchester
Martha 1843
Harriet J 1846
Esther 1849
Samuel 1849
Samuel Cant ( 1810) married Ann Williams and had offspring:
Samuel 1833 ( died 1833)
Ann 1834
Samuel 1836
Ermina 1839
George Grose 1841
Elizabeth 1845
Sarah Ursula 1847
Ursula 1849
Joseph 1849
William 1852
I have no trace of an Eliza Cant at the moment and the only George, in my tree, of the right sort of age to be her father doesn't seem to have had a daughter of that name. Unless of course I have missed her!
I do hope this is helpful. I should very much like to be able to trace the parents of my earliest George Cant - the one who married Hannah Cant. If anything crops up in your research which looks promising, please let me know.
