Cants in Harpenden Hertfordshire

At a book sale I bought a copy of Hall Caine's The Manxman. Inside is a presentation plate from the "Harpenden PSA Society". Someone said this might be a Parent and Staff Association for one of the local schools. I think that, at the time, St Georges was the only senior school in the town and was/still is a boarding school.

The book was awarded as a prize to Mr W Cant, Session 1907-8

Does this enlighten anyone
