I believe that Jane BROWN who married H. S. CANTERBURY in Hardin Co., TN in 1875 was a daughter of my g-g-grandfather, William T. BROWN. (I descend from his second oldest daughter Misinair N. BROWN Wheeler.)

William T. BROWN was born 26 August 1817 in KY and died 09 February 1899 at Couch, Oak Grove Twp., Oregon Co., MO. He married Lear F. ? before 1843 in KY. She was born in 1822 in KY. They left KY about 1849 with three
children. They are first found in the 1850 Lawrence Co., TN Census with three children.

Sometime before 1860 they migrated to Hardin Co., TN where they are found in the 1860 and 1870 Census records:

1860 Hardin Co., TN Census (Hd-2-284) Brown, William T., 42; Lear F., 37; Mary F., 16; James, 14; Missmier (Misinair), 12 (f); Joseph, 9; George W., 6; Archibald, 3; Elizabeth J., 1.

1870 Hardin County, TN Census, 3rd Civil Dist., page 361; household 89; family 86; William, age 50, M, W, Farmer, $0/900, KY; Leah (Lear), age 47, F, W, Keeping House, KY, SC, KY; Joseph, age 20, M, W, Works on
Farm, TN; Missiniah (Misinair), age 21, F, W, KY; George, age 15, M, W, Works on Farm, TN; Archibald, age 14, M, W, Works on Farm, TN; Elizabeth, age 11, F, W, TN; Drury, age 8, M, W, TN; Cornelia (Corna), age 3, F, W, TN.

William T. BROWN and Lear F. ? had the following children:

1. Mary F. BROWN, b. 1844, KY
2. James K. BROWN, b. 1846, KY
3. Misinair N. BROWN, b. 07 September 1848, KY; d. 04 December 1914, Tabor, Bingham Co., ID
4. Joseph BROWN, b. 1851, Lawrence or Hardin Co., TN
5. George W. BROWN, b. April 1854, Lawrence or Hardin Co., TN; d. Aft. 1900 AR.
6. Archibald BROWN, b. Abt. 1856, Lawrence or Hardin Co., TN
7. Elizabeth J. BROWN, b. 1859, Lawrence or Hardin Co., TN. (It appears likely that Elizabeth Jane married Houston
L. Canterbury/Canterberry 1875 Hardin Co., TN)
8. Drury M. BROWN, b. Abt. 1862, Hardin Co., TN
9. Cornelia (Corna) BROWN, b. Abt. 1867, Hardin Co., TN

Sometime around 1877 William T. BROWN, his wife, two minor children, two grown sons, and two married daughters moved to Missouri. The 1880 Oregon Co., MO census reveals the following:

Source: 1880 Dent County, MO Census, Spring Creek Township, House 51, Wheeler, J.W., head of house, age 30, M, W, works on railroad, born TN, can read & write, father born NC, mother born TN; wife, Miss (Misinair N. BROWN), age 31, F, W, keeping house, born KY, can read & write, parents born KY; daughter, Mertie, age 1, F, W, born MO, father born TN, mother born KY; adopted son, Austin, Josiah W., age 8, M, W, born TN. Note: sometime later in 1880 John W. WHEELER and his family moved to Garfield, Oregon Co., MO where he worked at or ran some type of store and farmed (leased land) on the side. After 1884, he owned a blacksmith business and farm in Many Springs, Oregon Co. About 1902 John W. WHEELER and Misinair N. BROWN Wheeler followed their only daughter to Idabel, Indian Territory, McCurtain Co., OK.

Further proof lies in "Oregon Co., MO 1883-1890 Birth Records" that names the parents of a baby girl born 29 Feb. 1884 in Oak Grove Township (attended by W.A. Thompson of Garfield, MO, M.D.). Father was Houston L.
CANTERBERRY, farmer, 35 years old, born Alabama. Mother was Elizabeth J. BROWN Canterberry, 25 years old, born Tennessee. This Elizabeth J. BROWN Canterberry fits the time frame for the daughter of William T. and Lear ? BROWN mentioned in previous census records. William T. BROWN was living in the dwelling next to Houston and Elizabeth Jane in the Oak Grove Township during this time. Another very strong clue: Houston and Elizabeth named their oldest daughter Corna and their son William; both family names in the William T. Brown family.

I look forward to hearing from you and others who may have a connection to this line.
