Rufus P. Canterbury + Ann Eliza Stroud

I am trying to identify the parents of Ann Eliza Stroud/Stroude, born 1 April 1840-48, Indiana; died 1 Jan. 1930, Austin, Travis County, Texas. According to census records, her father was born in Pennsylvania and her mother was born in Kentucky.

She married (1) Joseph Allen, a physician, about 1868 - I know not where - and they had one child, Maud, born in May 1869, Missouri.

She married (2) as his second wife, Rufus P. Canterbury 13 July 1875 Sangamon County, Ill., and they had one child: Claude, born 16 July 1876, Sangamon County, Ill.

I have founnd her on all censuses between 1870 and 1920 but cannot find her or her family in earlier censuses.

In 1870, "Lizzie" and first husband Joseph Allen were living in Quincy, Adams County, Ill., (Census page 503B)with daugher Maud, born in May 1869, Missouri.

Living in the same dwelling (#507) were three other families. One of those families might be Ann Eliza's mother and two of her brothers: Kate Stroude, age 56, born in Kentucky, John Stroude, age 20, and Charles Stroud, age 16, both born in Illinois.

I have not been able to find Kate Stroude or either of her probable sons in earlier or later censuses.

I know that Ann Eliza also had a sister, Nanny, who was married to William C. Smith. I found that couple in the 1910 census, living in Carthage, Jasper County, Mo. I have not located them in any earlier censuses or found a marriage record for them in Illinois.

I would appreciate hearing from anyone who knows anything about this Stroud family.
