On the subject of Canterbury family in Gallia, Ohio, I would like to know if anyone can help me with my "brick wall." My great-grandfather George Washington Canterbury was born in Morgan Twp., Gallia, OH on Feb. 25, 1872. He was the son of George Canterbury and Maria Adeline Sealy. (There are numerous spellings of Sealy, not to mention that sometimes she shows up in records as simply M., or M. A., or even A.)

George W. showed up as an 8 year old in the 1880 Boyd County, KY census, where the family name was spelled something like Cantery. I learned that George W.'s brother Homer was born in Boyd County, KY in 1879, which is what led me to KY in the first place.

Would anyone happen to know anything at all about George W.'s parents, George and Maria Adeline? I've seen where the elder George was born about 1847, and I know that he married Maria in 1867 in Gallia, OH. Their first child, Adeline, was born in February 1870 in Gallia, OH but the family is not listed on the 1870 census there. Other than that, I haven't one more piece of information about him.

Any and all help is much appreciated!
