Opal was my great-grandmother too. Her daughter Dorothy (Day) Knuckles was my mother's mother. Opal's direct descendants still live in the Tazewell area.

CEDAR BLUFF, Va. — Opal L. Marshall, age 101, of Cedar Bluff, Va., formerly of Tazewell, Va., went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 12, 2008; she died at her home. Born April 5, 1906 in Lawrence County, Ky., she was a daughter of the late John Henry Cantaberry and Emma Melissa Herald Cantaberry.She was a retired cook for the Tazewell County Sheriff's Department. She participated in the Generations Adult Day Care Program at Wardell, Va. and enjoyed the many activities and outings.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elza L. Marshall; two sons, Robert Day and Richard Day; three daughters, Dorothy Marie Knuckles and two infant daughters. Survivors include two daughters, Deborah K. Shepard and her husband, Kenneth M. Shepard with whom she had made her home the past several years; Barbara Walters and husband, Bill of Cleveland, Ohio; two sisters, Henrietta Lowe of Pikeville, Ky. and Goldie Byers of Cincinnati, Ohio; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; also special friends, Don Durham, Aleen Hicks, and these employees of Total Home Health and Hospice Care: Sandy Johnson, Paula Slate, Tammy Hall, and Faye Christian.Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, Va. with Pastors Tim Samples, and Bobby and Shelia Stanley officiating. Entombment will follow in the Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum at Bluewell. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer is Don Durham.The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday (today), January 15, 2008"
