Canton Family Genealogy Forum

This is a complete shot in the dark, but I guess I'll shoot, anyway. I come from the line of Cantons who supposedly stem from some horse thief/murderer/who knows? whose posterity ended up in McComb, Mississippi, and later in Texas & South Carolina, as well as other towns in Mississippi. My great grandfather was a Carl Leander Canton, my grandfather was Floyd Wesley Canton, Sr., and my dad Floyd Wesley Canton, Jr.
There was a famous gunfighter (former criminal) by the name of Frank Canton who helped to haul in (or kill) the Bill Doolin gang back in the nineteenth century. He had changed his name from Joe Horner to Frank Canton to protect himself, and had chosen a life of gunning down "bad guys" (in the name of the law & having, as well, the law's sanction) to try to redeem himself of the horrid deeds of his past life. I have no real way of connecting myself to him, but the story vaguely resembles one that has been handed down in my family for years. Can anyone help me? God bless you, and thanks!
