ALVIN RALPH CAPLES
Alvin Ralph Caples, age 71, of Lamoni, Iowa died suddenly Monday, April 2, 2007 at the Decatur County Hospital in Leon, Iowa. He was born in Orange, California on June 4, 1935, eldest son of Edward and Anna Viola (James) Caples.
Al was a firefighter with the U.S. Forestry Service in California. He worked much of his life as a self-employed floor-covering contractor. He owned and operated Granny's Place in Lamoni for several years.
Al loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and varmint calling. He was a gun enthusiast and an avid golfer. But, he was happiest working in his shop creating beautiful furniture, doll furniture, and other artistic treasures. He was truly a master craftsman.
Al's greatest loves were his wife of 42 1/2 years, Helen Marie Caples, and the family they built together, Mike Caples and Debbie, Herbert Caples and Linda, Robert Caples, Mike Roberts and Brenda, Steve Roberts and Denise, all of California, and his only daughter Sharon Gammell of Bettendorf, Iowa. His loving grandchildren included Rachael Gammell, John Gammell, Brian Roberts, David Roberts, Sara Roberts, Brett Caples, Kyle Caples, Michael Caples, Joel Williams, Joshua Williams, and Leah Williams. His great grandchildren are Trish and Frankie Williams, twins Jake and Jed Williams, Jason Wiliiams, Jadyn Williams, and Zachary Williams. Al is also survived by his brother Marvin Caples and his wife Mary.
Al was preceded in death by his parents.
