Caplinger's Co. TN Mounted Gunmen
Posted by: Jim Davis Date: June 06, 2000 at 06:38:02

I am not a Caplinger researcher. But, because an ancestor of mine happened to serve in it, I am aware that there was the following unit in the War of 1818 (First Seminole War): Caplinger's Company of Tennessee Mounted Gunmen (Riflemen). It appears to have been gotten up from men in the Smith County area, though it appears to have mustered in at Ditto's Landing, Alabama (near Hunstville, in Madison County). I hope this helps someone.
