Be very careful with your research, because OUR Samuel Caplinger (who moved to Caplinger Mills, MO in 1842 with a John Caplinger whom we assume to be his brother) married a Rebecca MARICLE in 1827, also in Wilson County. It makes research VERY confusing.

There was a Samuel Caplinger in DeKalb Co, TN who founded Temperance Hall. I cannot clear whether he is a third Samuel or is yours, but I haven't had time in several years to do research.

If you look in this same forum you will find an entry from W. Alan Jones in Nov 1998. The subject was "Caplinger, Caplener, and CAPLENOR" and I have copied it here. Maybe he could help you....

John CAPLINGER, b. 1833 in Wilson Co.TN married Mary Isabel Link, b.1850 in Smith Co.,TN. John was the son of Samuel Caplinger and Martha Carter. After the Civil War, he changed his name to John W. CAPLENOR.
Their daughter, Martha Elizabeth Caplenor married Dudley Gatewood Conatser who was son of Tom Conatser and Polly Ann Hines (or Hinds).
