It's been a long time since I've looked at any of the research on Banfield. He was supposedly born about 1680 and as best I can tell was only married twice, first to Elizabeth Callender and second to Sarah Daggett, widow of John.I know that people have him married to Elizabeth Blackington, but the only "proof" of that marriage comes from Frederic Holden's book on the Capron family, and Holden is quoting from Philip Capron, who says Banfield's second marriage was to a Blackington. He also indicates that Banfield was only married twice. I think the Elizabeth Capron who d. in 1735 was Elizabeth (Callender) Capron, and then Banfield m. Sarah Daggett. The only Elizabeth Blackington I've been able to find was at least thirty years younger than Banfield, not unheard of but unlikely as a second marriage.People have tended to take Holden's book as gospel, but it's certainly not a primary source for any Capron [email protected]
