Amos Carithers of Georgia
I have a quandry and need help.Amos Carithers who married Elizabeth Eleanor Thompson and lived in Madison Co., GA was born c 1815.All the genealogies that are on the web and other sites have Amos' parents as being James W. and Penelope Tillman Carithers.Recently someone mentioned was it possible that Amos was the illegimate child of Margaret Carithers (the daughter of Robert Carithers and Mary Luckie) who was born in c 1791.In the 1820 census for Oglethorpe Co., GA Robert and Mary are listed with 3 daughters still living at home. There is also a male child living there under the age of 9 which would fit with Amos' birth time.Margaret never married as far as I can tell and when Robert and Mary died she went to live with Amos and his wife and stayed even after he died. When she died she was buried in the same cemetery as Amos and his wife very close to them.Does anyone have any ideas of how I can prove my theory or disprove my theory. Thanks for your help.Peggy Jentgens
