My grandfather George Walber Carlin insisted my mother be named Mary Ellen after someone in the family. His grandfather was also George Walber Carlin born in Virginia 1844-1848?, served in the Civil War there before moving to Nashville, TN in 1868. When he married in 1871, an announcement was posted in the Petersburg VA newspaper. And a gentleman Henry Carlin was an attendant in the wedding, not sure of the relationship or where he was from. At the time I can find no record of a Henry Carlin in Tennessee. I have no record of his parents names, just that his father was born in Ohio and his mother in Virginia. Names were very important to this family most of the names were passed down for at least three generations, both male and female. Any information would be most appreciated.
