Thanks for the suggestion, but I was unable to find any information on that site than fits my missing g+grandmother, Elizabeth Carlin, wife of John Humes. They met when they immigrated from Ireland ca. 1795 and I believe, were m. in Philadelphia and their first child, William Humes, was there b. Jan. 1800. They had 4 more children: Maria,Julia, Elizabeth and Louisa, all born in Va. Elizabeth Carlin Humes died bef. 1815, when John married his 2nd wife, Margaret Purse. I can trace John and his descendants from Va to Missouri, Idaho and Wa State, but cannot identify Elizabeth Carlin's parents or siblings.

Best clue I have is copy of a letter from an attorney in St Louis dated 11 Dec 1868 sent to Joseph G. Hume--a grandson of John and Elizabeth Carlin Humes--concerning, "... an offer to compromise the Carlin will case by Mrs. Ruth E. Carlin, the widow...."

This may be the same Ruth E. Carlin:
1860 Census Springfield, OH.
John Carlon 69 1790 Pennsylvania Male 5,000 10,000 Rt (retail?) Merchant
Ruth E Carlon 52 1807 Ohio Female
Robert Carlon 17 1842 Wisconsin Male

I'd be thrilled if you've found more info that might help me find the parents and or siblings of Elizabeth Carlin Humes or have other suggestions.

to the widow of to St. Louis in the late 1800s, when a Humes descendant corresponded to the attorney for a Carlin widow
