Denison Carlisle Passes Away Suddenly
Denison Carlisle, father of N.S. Carlisle of this city, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jeanette Gilbert, at Wyoming, Iowa, last Saturday afternoon after an illness of only a few hours.
Mr. Carlisle, who was 84 years of age, was apparently in splendid health for a man of his age, and was working in the yard until a few hours before his death, which was caused from apoplexy. The body was brought at once to his former home at Hampshire, this county, and funeral services were held there Sunday afternoon.
Denison Carlisle was born in Herkimer county, New York, January 26, 1818. In 1839 he was married to Almira Hayden at North Adams, Mass. To their union five children were born. Three of them, N.S. of this city, Mrs. Emma Smith and Mrs. Jeanette Gilbert of Wyoming, Iowa, survive. The family came to Illinois in 1855 and settled on a farm in Hampshire township, and lived there until Mrs. Carlisle's death a few years ago. Since then the subject of this sketch has lived with his children, considerable of the time being passed with his son in St. Charles. (Posted as a courtesy, not related.)
