Hi Sue. Thanks for your response. I did find that particular listing in the 1880 Census. I have not been able to verify that this is the same William Carnes. Some information that I found indicates that he was born in Huntingdon County in Pennsylvania. I intend to take a day trip to Huntingdon County to the courthouse so I can check their records. If I find that connection, I will let you know. If you know of anything that might verify the connection, I would love to know. I know that he was a tall redhaired man with a handlbar mustache. Any redheads in your family? :>)
