I am a descendant of Jeremiah Carnley of the Jay, FL area.Jeremiah was in
Henry Co., AL in 1830, and in Santa Rosa Co. in 1860.I know of the
following children: Rosanna (my gg grandmother) Emaline, and Mary Jane
and probably a William.
Jeremiah homesteaded some land near Jay in 1883, and the homestead was
transferred to William H. Carnley, and signed by:
Mary McCurdy, H. Odom and Pearl Odom, Diddy Dunlay (daughter
of Emaline) and John Dunlap, and Rosanna Morris (a daughter of Jeremiah).
This document is in Milton in the courthouse land records.
The homestead papers gave his age as 74 next Oct (Homestead date
was 10 Sept 1883).This would make it Oct. 1809 if correct. He was
probably a few years older, since the 1830 census indicated 4
children under 10. If married at 18, and the oldest child was six, his
birth year would be closer to about 1805.
