Just a thought. I found an old book that showed how the old canoes were made and it displayed a permit from Quebec to trade in furs, etc.These permits for canoes were in either Montreal or Quebec but you could contact either cities museum to find the permit issuers. If you do not find it,I will try to dig out my old book for their source.
