I think the Mary CARSLEY that married Joshua MOODY in Maine may be the daughter of John CARSLEY and Dorcas HAMBLIN of Barnstable, MA.
John's son of the same name John CARSLEY b. Nov. 1740 married Mercy FREEMAN and they had a son Benjamin CARSLEY b. around 1769 in Gorham, Cumberland Co., ME who married a Eunice MOODY in Gorham on or about Sept. 23, 1799, this Might be an Intent date. Benjamin and Eunice had a son Mark CARSLEY that was born in 1807 Harrison, Cumberland Co., Maine.
Harrison is where my 5th grt. grandparents daughter Sarah "Sally" (Moody) Newcomb lived and died and raised her children. Among her children and grandchildren the use of the surname CARSLEY shows up several times and for what reason I cannot determine except to think that somewhere on her MOODY side of the family there must have been some sort of a link.
The name Carsley did not link to any of the "wives" who intermarried with Sarah Moody Newcomb's sons that I have been able to find going back several genearations on them.
However the CARSLEY name is found in Gorham and Harrison, ME and other nearby areas where MOODY's were also known to live.
The HAMBLIN surname was the maiden name of my 4th grt. grandfather's 1st wife's mother. My 4th grt. grandfather Joseph MOODY b.c1781/82 married 1st to Content CROCKETT daughter of Samuel Crockett and Tabitha HAMBLIN. I am certain there is probably a connection there as well.
A James MOODY of Standish, Cumberland Co., ME was also said to have come from the Barnstable /// Cape Cod area of MA although others have him linked to Joshua Moody and Tabitha Cox as their son.The IGI records (With No Sources cited however) have entries that this James Moody was a son of a Samuel MOODY (I think, I hope I'm not confusing this James with another James who was also in this area, but its been a long time since I researched these Moody lines so I might have mixed them up).
At any rate, the links between these CARSLEY's and MOODY's seems to be apparent as well as the links between the CARSLEY's and NEWCOMB's to whom my James Moody's daughter Sarah married into (the Newcomb's...of Welfleet, MA).
If anyone here can add anything to this, I would be most greatful.
Especially if you know who this Eunice MOODY was that married Benjamin CARSLEY.Again the IGI records say she was a daughter of James MOODY and Elizabeth SHAW of Standish, ME but the Baptism records of James and Eliz. children show no daughter named Eunice.
That doesn't mean there wasn't one, I just find it odd that their other children are listed in the Standish, ME Baptism records but not this daughter.
Unless she went by "Eunice" and her first name was something else. With No Sources cited its all just conjecture, so I'm hoping perhaps someone here might know more about this couple.
Thank You.
