It has been a long time and I have found lots of information.Malcom Gwin married Mary Eliabeth Carson and is the parents of your Mary Elizabeth.Your Mary Elizabeth married Andrew jackson Gray in Smith County, moved first to 1860 census Hill county TX, then moved to Lavaca or Fayette County area (I suspect it is near the border). They were married 3 Jan 1855 Tyler, Smith County Texas had William Ellis "Billie" Gray 15 October 1855 who married Harriet Lousie Tubbs, George Washington Gray who married Mary A. Deal, Elvy Anna Gray, who married W.W. Miller, Malcom Clarence "Mac" Gray who married Mary Ellen Smith, Sarah Frances "Sallie" Gray whomarried Francis M. Anderson, Andrew Thomas "Yank" Gray who married Efford C. Jackson, James Carson Gray who married Clara N. Head and Alice Me Gray who married William Hardon.In 1880 they were in Hamilton County Texas, Andrew was Pvt in the Civil War, texas Muster Roll Abstract in Lavaca Ct. Vol Cal. Co Waul's Legion CSA, enlisted 1862 as resident of Lavaca County Texas. The third school to serve Hamilton County (which later this section became mills County, was the Gray School on the land from the Andrew Gray place Southeast of Bethel Church.The school was organized about 1907 and ran until about 1912.The Gray School burned and school was held in Bethel Church for a few years until the Midway School was built.
When Andrew was in the Confederate Army he was a teamster and received 25 cents a day.His period of service was only 92 aysHe recieved a patent from Governor John Irelandfor 160 acres in Hamilton County, located on the waters of Bennett's Creek as payment for military service.He built a house for his family by hauling all the lumber by wagon from Waco
Mary was a godly woman who raised her children in the Methodist Church.
Andrew Jacksons Gray's name is inscribed on the base of the statue in fromt of the Mills County courthouse.He died Feb 16, 1895 and Mary Elizabeth died on April 23, 1918.They are buried in the Caradan cemetery near Lookout Mountain, Mills County.
Our Mary Carson Gwin was from the Williamson County area of Tennessee.She and Malcom are both buried at Andrew's Chapel, Lavaca County TX.He was a minister there.
