Hi -- I am a music history writer and researcher and I've been trying to track down info on Whitey Carson for a long time, without much luck. I am assuming that your Whitey Carson is the same guy who was a western singer dating back to the World War II era and worked for a while in New York area, then was a member of the Grand Ole Opry for a spell, etc. He was supposedly from Texas, but I have never been sure whether that was truth or just publicity. In the 1960s, when he was still performing in the northeast, I found at least one blurb that claimed he was a real deputy sheriff from Texas. The earliest mention I've ever found comes from 1944, from Billboard magazine and it mentions that he was from San Antonio, Texas, and that he served during World War II, being injured in action in the Aleutians and sent home, earning a Purple Heart. Also in 1944, Carson made some recordings for Regal Records. I have 8 songs he recorded. I also have a photo of Whitey Carson. Again, I am only guessing that this Whitey Carson is the same one that you seek, but it certainly seems possible given what little you've written in your note. I wish I knew more to tell you, but I've never been able to find out a real name for him, which would be a great help. It may have actually been Whitey -- who knows. Anyway, I'd be glad to share any details I have -- not much, but it might be something. I can copy the photo and recordings if you wish, too.
