Last year myself and a third cousin from MD discovered each other on this site. Our parents were born and raised in Washington Co. PA. Since then, we met in Oct '09 and tromped around some family cemeteries together and keep intouch through facebook several times a week.
Debi new of this grave site but was not sure which Thomas Carson it was. I visited the site in Oct 09 and confirmed the dates of both Thomas and Mary Gibson Carson. As far as we are aware and from our research no family members knew the location of this grave. I was told by a distant cousin once they were buried on the original family farm fence line in unknown, unmarked graves.
The confusion comes from the fact that the stone maker apprently made a mistake and spelled Carson as Carrson on Thomas's stone. There are at least a dozen Carson's buried here and all the others have the correct spelling and dates/ages on the stones are an exact match to family records.
The site is located a couple miles north of downtown Charleroi, PA on SR 837 just east of SR 88 intersection on the south side of 837. There is an old Cemetery with historical marker. It is called the Horseshoe Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. There is a line of stones on the west side of the cemetery starting at 837. Thomas Jr. and Mary Gibson Carson are the last two standing stones in the row. They are very readable. There are other Carson family members there also. There are photo's of the stones on a newly created Facebook web page for Thomas Carson b1740.
Debi and I are both 5th Great Grandchildren of Thomas b1740, (4th of Thomas and Mary)
