YARMOUTHPORT James R. Carson passed away peacefully on Monday, April 26, 2010, with his loving wife and stepdaughter at his side.

Born on Oct. 10, 1920, in Pittsburgh, Pa., he was a former resident of South Boston and moved to Falmouth after the passing of his first wife, Marion Carson.

Living on the Cape with his son, Robert J. Carson, he worked as an artist in the shop of Jacqueline Rocheleau in Falmouth. In 2003, he met his present wife, Gloria Carr-Carson, and lived in the Gardens in Yarmouthport until his death.

In addition to his wife and son, he leaves four stepchildren, Dr. T.J. Carr, Christopher D. Carr, M. Scott Carr, Victoria M. Carr and their spouses. He also leaves 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He served with the Army Air Corps as a Turret gunner during World War II. He was credited with destroying two Japanese Zero aircraft, completing 50 combat missions in the areas of the South Pacific and the Philippine Islands and saving the life of a bombardier in the line of combat. He earned three Air Medals and was recipient of the Purple Heart.

He attended school and trained to become a hypnotherapist and had many clients connected with the office of Dr. P. Cochrane of Hyannis.

At the age of 50, he began studying martial arts and held a tenth-degree black belt in karate. Well into his 80s he taught a form of ultra ju-jitsu every Thursday night at the Yarmouth Senior Center.

His life will be celebrated on Saturday, June 5, beginning at 1 p.m. at the Gardens in Yarmouthport. Family and friends are welcome.
