If you have a male relative who bears the surname 'Carter'--and who would be willing to participate in Carter DNA testing, you could probably solve a lot of genealogical mysteries for yourself, and for the whole Carter genealogy community.You need a Carter male for this test, as it requires Y-DNA, and it requires a Carter.
There is a Carter DNA group study underway at FamilyTreeDNA.com.You can find it under 'Groups' and the Y-DNA group 'C' there.
The Admin for this group can give you more info.
Note also that this test (37 markers would be really useful), is done using what is often referred to as 'Junk DNA' as it does not code for medical information.
I hope that you have a willing male Carter candidate, and that you ask him to participate.
