Benjamin Carter (c1749 VA - 1831 Caswell Co, NC)
I am hoping someone will have some information on 'my' Benjamin Carter.
I am descended from Benjamin H. Carter (c1806 VA or NC - 1879 Caswell Co, NC) and Martha Mills (c1810 - 1871) [m. 1842 Rockingham Co, NC] through their daughter Sarah Frances Carter (1843 - 1921) who m. William James Courts in 1858 in NC
I recently discovered that Benjamin H. Carter was a son of Benjamin Carter (1749 - 1831) and Elizabeth (1763 - 1841).Benjamin, Sr. died testate naming wife Elizabeth and [presumably in birth order, by gender]: sons William, Littleberry, John, and Benjamin; and daughters Polley Mullin and Sarah Stubblefield. He also named grandson Benjamin R. Chandler and ganddaughters Elizabeth Young Carter and Mary Elizabeth Stubblefield
The birth and death dates for Benjamin, Sr. and Elizabeth are from the Caswell County Historical Association site on Rootsweb [re the Carter Cemetery]
census information suggests Benjamin, Sr. and Elizabeth were originally from VA.The census information for birth place for son Benjamin H. Carter is mixed. The 1850 census says VA; later censuses say NC
Daughter Polly [Carter] Mullin moved to MS; she is in the 1850 De Soto Co census as Mary Mullins [head of household].The census says she was born c1796 in VA
any help would be greatly appreciated
thx!
