Hi-
I am so glad to hear from you........I used to go to Cousin Clyde and Cousin Goldy's house with my grandfather when I was little. We would sit on their front porch and visit. Their house looked out towards the Natchez Trace and the French Camp Cemetery was up the hill behind and to the right. My grandfather and grandmother were Remer Moffat Downing and his wife Annie Lucy Henderson Downing. They lived on hwy 413 until selling what was left of the Downing Place and moving into town. Granddaddy worked for the highway department and also at the Fair's store in town. Remer's mother was Ida Moffat Winfrey who married Richard Alexander Downing. That makes Absalom Farrar Winfrey and his wife - Sarah Lucinda Davison - my grgrgrandparents. I would love to know more about the Winfrey family and who married whom. I have information that I am more than willing to share. I believe that Oprah's mother intended to name her daughter after Orpha in the Bible. But a mispelling changed everything!!! I am in touch with a descendant of the Winfrey boys that moved on to TX after the Civil War. Would you like that email address?
