Cartledge in GA and AL

I'm trying to figure out my Cartledge in the 1860 Barbour Co., AL census:

p.618;1104/1103 - Edmund Cartledge 25m GA;Rhoda 20f GA (Thornton); Euphemia 6f AL;Edmund 4m AL;Green 1 m AL. (*keep in mind how young Rhoda was).

But, Marraige in Muscogee Co., GA (just across the line) - 14 Sep 1853. Edmund Cartledge m. Eupheme G. Thornton. Perhaps Rhoda's sister?

Edmund is gone by the 1870 census. He must have died in the Civil War. Rhoda remarried Cameron McKinnon, a CSA Captain. The Cartledge children are there as well.

So, who was Edmund Cartledge? And which Thornton girl did he wed? Both?

Any ideas on this strain of GA/AL Cartledges would be most appreciated!
