hi terry, my name is ann hale mcwilliams. i inherited some beautiful jewelry from my grandmother bertha (birdie) cartledge hale. one is a cameo that i dated @1930. the other sent me on a search for her family. my dad gave me a little yellow box with the words $20,00 gold piece on chain written on it. it's a beautiful copy of the first gold coin minted in the us. but the date on it is 1776. i've been told it's just a piece of costume jewelry but since i know her family was here during that time it intrigues me. anyway, i stumbled onto a family history search site run by the church of latter-day saints. to my surprise someone whose name is not familiar to me had registered her father and forefathers back to the 1600's starting with an edmund cartledge who came from england and settled in pa. his son -edmund cartledge jr.-died in md. edmund carledge III was born in pa and died in columbia co. ga, his son was samuel cartledge who might have been born in nc but died in col. co, ga.his son john victor cartledge has very little info except born in ga. his son samuel vickers cartledge was born in sc and died in ms. his son william joseph cartledge born and died in ms, and finally, my grandmother, my father, and me. a lot more details on website. does this help? anything more you can tell me? thanks, this was fun, ann
