hi,Ann you description of the swampy place is right -i'm 'told that it can also refer to the stoney pebbles at the side of a river-bank ,which are coverd by the rise & fall of the river due to the moon.I've only got back to 1745 -a James C who married an elizabeth Cockerill (cockrell or whatever) Any info going back to 1500's gtfully recd >I also "hear that there was a Baron de C from Normandy who went to nottinham to help William the Conq clean up the locals. He was "supposedly given large tracts of land ,But apparently misbehaved (further Rape & pillage????) & the land was taken back And his Name Removed from the 12 books of Nottingham-anyone know if this is true.oh by the way when in Nott Castle I was immersed in a Weird Sensation, scary, etherial feeling-perhaps there IS a conection ?-I look forward to info-regards Rodger I .Cartledge Nz.
