Thanks Tim, Yes I have located an obituary for Mary Cartledge Harrison from a local newspaper. Unfortunately it was heavy on the flowery statements but short on the facts. I have also found a significant amount of information on her children, including the extracted data from their death certificates. Those death records identifies the name of decedant's mother, but it varies record to record: Cartridge, Cartlidge, Cartledge, Certledge, Cadeletch and, oddly, Cunningham. I believe the answers to my questions lie in England. Perhaps a reader has information on a marriage between Mary Cartledge and Ralph Harrison in the 1854 time frame? I think they were both from the coal mining regions of Durham. She was probably born in about 1832. He was probably born in about 1829. Thanks for your response!
John
