Dear Elizabeth,

Thank you so much for your response! I was very pleased to hear from you. You definitely opened a door for me. I had come across Ann Ruud/James Cartledge and their daughters Jane and Mary elsewhere in my research but had never been able to definitively connect them with my Mary Cartledge. The fact that your Jane ended up Pennsylvania and then to La Salle Illionis definately makes the connection. You made my day!
How were you able to trace your Jane to arriving in NY on 9 Dec 1863? My research, so far indicates my Mary arrived in 1861 but this date isn't at all firm. Perhaps they were aboard the same ship?

Your marriage date of 5 June 1833 for Mary and Jane's parents also is a bit of a suprise asI believe my Mary was born in 1832.

I'd be very interested in any other information you can give.

Thanks
John
