Hi Carol,
When you say that the wife of Francis' son also came from Scotland, are you referring to the wife of James, your ancestor?

During my research I have been very confused by James. I have him in both the 1861 census and 1871 census but lose track of him then. I found a marriage for a James in 1879 in the area where the family was living but could find no trace of him or his wife in 1881 census. If this was the marriage of your James, his wife wasn't from Scotland, and where did they go to?

When and where was Alexander born?

Ann
