Edmund Cartledge (b. 28 Sep 1834 in Columbia Co. GA, d. 27 Apr 1865 at Midway, Bullock Co. AL, bur. in Midway Cemetery where these dates appear on his tombstone) is very probably Edmund, a son of Edmund (1788-1834) and Lucretia Lightfoot, who is mentioned in Edmund's will signed 5 Oct 1834 and authenticated 3 Nov 1834 in Columbia County.
Edmund (age 16, b. GA, ploughman) appears in the 1850 Census for Burke Co. GA, p. 296, residing with Mackey McNorrice and his three children.
Edmund m. 1st, 14 Sep 1853 in Muscogee Co. GA, Euphemia G. Thornton, daughter of Green H. Thornton and Rhoda (? Skelton), born 22 Aug 1829, died 24 Dec 1858, bur. in Midway Cemetery. They had three children, all probably born in Midway: 1) Euphemia, b. ca. 1854, mar. Daniel McKinnon; 2) Edmund, b. 19 Dec 1856, d. 20 Feb 1930, mar. Geraldine Wilson; 3) Green Thornton, b. 17 Dec 1858, d. 14 Apr 1933, mar. 1st Ida Bell Turner, mar. 2nd Electra Elizabeth West.
Edmund mar. 2nd, 29 Feb 1860 in Barbour Co. AL (Bk. 4, p. 507) Rhoda Thornton, sister of Euphemia G. Thornton, b. 14 Mar 1840 in GA, died 24 Sep 1889 at Midway AL. Their two children, born in Midway: 1) Lee Early, b. Jul 1863, d. 7 Feb 1918, mar. Leila A. Wilkerson; 2) Dozier Nathaniel, b. Feb 1865, d. Oct 1924, m. Corine Bishop.
Rhoda (Thornton) Cartledge married 2nd, 16 Jan 1867 in Barbour Co. AL (Bk. 5, p. 44) Cameron McKinnon.
The 1870 Census for Bullock Co. AL, p. 16, has the following entry: McKinnon, Cameron (35, NC, farmer), Rhodee (29, GA), Charles (2, AL), [and five Cartledge children:] Euphemia (15, AL), Edmund (14, AL), Green (11, AL), Lee (7, AL), Nathaniel (5, AL).
Though Edmund died in 1865 I have found no records in the AL Archives that prove he saw Confederate service.
