Thanks for your informative posting. If Sarah Catledge's name really was Cartledge (and it may well have been, but the marriage record in Decatur Co. definitely reads "Catledge"), then James Cartledge is a good bet for her father. Shortly after her marriage to Chesley A. Lester, the couple moved to Florida where at least two children were born. Sarah died 1836/37. Chesley moved to Tallapoosa County, AL long enough to marry Elmina Burnett 15 May 1839, then returned to GA for several years. However, the 1850 Census for Tallapoosa County, AL, p. 77, shows Chesley and his family; the two oldest children, James Thomas Lester and Mary Ann Lester as being born in Florida. Family Bible records show James Thomas was born 23 Oct 1834 and Mary Ann was born in 1836. The other children were by Chesley's second wife, and all born in Georgia. Hope this helps.
