EDOM RILEY RATCLIFF & RACHEL CASHETT
I answered another's post, on the Ratcliff board, but since I've seen the Ratcliff/Cashett link more than once, I thought I'd post it here, also...it's a bit long, so bear with me...maybe it will parallell or add to, someone elses.
Andrew Jackson Pitzer/ser m: Mahala Jane (Haley J)Ratcliff
d/o Edom Ratcliff & Rachel Cushatt....
My GG-grandfather was Andrew Jackson PITZER/SER/PITTSER.
AJP was b:1820 in Berkley Co.,VA and the family genealogist has it that AJP's family moved to Ohio, and made a home on the East Fork of the Little Miami River, there; a story I've read which was written by others who made the move to the NW or Ohio Territory, made a state, early 1800's. There's also mention that his dad lived near Lynchburg, OH. and his mother was Elizabeth PIPER/PIFER(?). I have seen that the Cashatts may have been in VA also, during that time, or Fredericks, MD..Hagarstown, etc.Anyway...in 1841, AJP made Mahalia (Haley J.)Jane RATCLIFF, d/o Edom RATCLIFF & Rachel CASHATT his bride.
They had 5 known children. The lst two sons, they named after their fathers, Edom Riley and John Andrew Pit/s/er
(The original surname, AJP's grdad's, immigrant, was Bitzer)
AJP's RATCLIFF inlaws decided to move to INDIANA and the couple soon followed & had 2 more sons before Haley J died 6 mos after the birth of her namesake, the only dtr recorded.AJP married Millison BISHOP-LAMB, formerly married to a QUAKER, Jonathan Bishop, who was excommunicated from the church, due to a history of rowdy behavior; and she'd been granted a release from her marraige bonds to him.AJP had Milly added to the family in Indiana, then moved on to Hickory Co., MO., where they had more. They remained there, til late the OT land rush, late 1890's.There's no record of her making the trip.
I add this info, on Milly B-L Pittser (most Pittsers of this spelling, were from this branch, as he changed the spelling to its current one, Pittser, for his 2nd family.)for those who might recognize her family, Eli BISHOP and Elizabeth SEALY, from KY.They may have also been Quakers and I noted that the Cashatts in NE were still Quakers in the post I'm responding to.
Also...I tracked the Cashatt/Ratcliffs back to a connection to the CHURCH family who were old-line New England seafarers and had descendants in Clermont/Brown Co.,OH. (SW pt).One of these, a step-bro of my Corn/w/ell 3Ggftr, married a Mary Pitser in Indiana and moved to Nebraska.I also saw where there's a connection to Barbados in some of these families, which had been colonized by the Brits, tho many of those they sent, were Huguenots (religious/political refugees, given sanction by the Brits).
This is getting long, tedious; but, I am certain I've found a common ground for several lines here.I hope it reaches more, who are trying to fill in some blanks in their trees and they'll help me with mine!
